TEHRAN -- Iran is to participate in the Second Annual UN Documentary Film Festival which will be held in New York on April 22 and 23, the Persian service of the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported on Wednesday.
The festival is being organized in cooperation with the New School and will feature two full days of film screenings, panel discussions with the filmmakers, and award presentations.
Filmmakers from or contracted by United Nations offices, funds, agencies around the world and, for the first time this year, from the general public are invited to submit entries for consideration.
The festival is on the theme of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals and is meant to encourage people to help eradicate extreme poverty and hunger in the world. It will also focus on various issues such as economic justice, human rights, international politics, racial justice, religious freedom, economic development, housing and homelessness, labor, poverty, animal rights, environmental justice, environmental preservation, pollution, sustainable agriculture, equal opportunities, violence against women, AIDS, health reform, Africa, Central America, the Middle East, South America, U.S. foreign relations, peace, and war.
One hundred and eighty films from Canada, China, India, the Philippines, Britain, Germany, and many other countries will be screened during the event.
